Pollution, dust, biological growth and old coatings can obscure architectural details and make a façade difficult to assess. Cleaning needs to distinguish removable deposits from the surface and patina that give an older building its character. Façade cleaning services
Our work covers external masonry and selected rendered or decorative surfaces. Following an assessment, the cleaning scope may include:
- Removal of accumulated dirt, soot and atmospheric grime
- Treatment of biological growth and associated surface staining
- Paint and graffiti removal where the substrate allows
- Cleaning of sandstone, natural stone and brick façades
- Careful cleaning around plaster, stucco and architectural details
Each surface is considered separately. Weathered stone, fragile finishes and deteriorated mortar may need repairs or a different treatment sequence before cleaning can proceed.
Methods selected for the building
We begin by identifying the surface material, existing coatings, condition of the joints and type of contamination. Small trial areas help establish a suitable method and a realistic cleaning result before work is extended across the façade.
Depending on the surface and deposits, the scope may include controlled low-pressure cleaning, specialist chemical cleaning, conservation poultices or waterless peel-off systems. The choice follows assessment and testing; one method is not suitable for every part of a building.
At Martin Place in Sydney’s CBD, our team used a waterless peel-off cleaning system on historic sandstone. The material was applied to bind with accumulated grime and removed once cured, reducing the need for water and runoff. This is one example of matching the cleaning method to the building.

Martin Place sandstone cleaning
A specialist waterless peel-off system removed accumulated grime from historic sandstone. The method was selected for sensitive stone surfaces where conventional high-pressure cleaning was unsuitable.

Common questions
Can you clean both sandstone and brick façades?
Yes. We assess sandstone, natural stone and brickwork, along with selected rendered and decorative surfaces. The material, mortar, existing finishes and type of deposit determine which cleaning methods are suitable.
Do you use high-pressure washing on heritage buildings?
High-pressure cleaning is not our default approach for heritage masonry. It can damage vulnerable stone, mortar and decorative surfaces. We assess the façade and test a suitable method, which may include controlled low-pressure cleaning or a specialist conservation system.
Can all stains, paint and graffiti be removed?
The result depends on the surface, the material causing the stain and how far it has penetrated. Trial areas help establish what can be removed without unacceptable damage. Some staining or historic patina may need to remain to preserve the original surface.
Can you quote for façade cleaning from photographs?
Photographs and the property address are useful for an initial discussion. A site assessment may be needed to check surface condition, access, previous coatings and the need for trial cleaning before we can confirm the scope and provide a reliable quote.
What affects the cost of façade cleaning?
